Klaipeda Lithuania

I am going to Lithuania for a week at the end of March and planning to visit Klaipeda with my young teenager. We will also spend a couple of days in Kaunas. I would welcome any recommendations. Would like to rent a car and would welcome advice on that too.

Assume the reason for going to Klaipeda is to visit the Curonion Spit. I researched a trip for last summer but we never actually went, mainly due to the flights to Palanga being from London airports or Dublin and us living in Northern England and other destinations offering an 'easier trip' (by that I mean avoiding a 4 hour drive each way to the airport). In Klaipeda we were looking at a visit to see the hill of witches, the sand dunes (there are many of those), the beaches and maybe the aquarium/maritime museum. It's going to be winter when you visit, so not sure cycling is an option, but there are lots of cycle routes on the Curonion spit. It's going to be very cold! I didn't really research Klaipeda itself. As you will have a rental car, you should try to detour to the Hill of Crosses near Siauliai when traveling between Kanaus and Klaipeda.

Thank you! I was hoping the drive from Kaunas would be more like 2-3 hours. Will look up the places you mentioned.

Sorry the 4 hours was for us to get from our house to Stansted to fly to Palanga, driving Kaunas to Klaipeda looks to be shorter.
