Tangier solo

notacooldad · 23/02/2025 20:18

Me and my friend have booked flights for Tangier for next week( Wednesday to Wednesday)

Unfortunately she can't make it as she is still struggling from complications from an operation. I'm happy to go by myself.

All I've got so far is a flight booked.

Has anyone got any good suggestions for resorts or tips they can give me.
Thanks.

Get out of tangier as quickly as you can! Get a bus down to chefchaouen if you like quirky picturesque towns that feel nice and safe. Or get a train to asilah which I think is a fairly nice seaside town though I haven't been there for ages. I also liked tetouan when I briefly visited and that's also on the coast. But tangier is just not very nice.

Essaouira is another pretty little coastal town. We went there when we were staying in Marrakech.
Not sure how easy it is to get to from Tangiers but it would definitely be a nicer place to stay.

It's a really long way from tangier so not really worth it if only going for a week

Following as we’re going at Easter! Have planned a day in chefchouen already, although didn’t realise there was a good bus link!

If you have the money then take a grand taxi, but it will cost about £70. Bus will be about £8 each IIRC but takes longer and is obviously less comfortable but they aren't too bad. You need the CTM bus not the local buses.

Thanks for the tips.
I may spend the night in Tangier, explore the next day and move on to Chefchaouen.

There are very few places that I could say I hated. Actually, there is one. Tangier. I agre with everyone else - get out as fast as you can.

notacooldad · 24/02/2025 13:39

@EmmaMaria
Why did you hate it so much?

I'd agree with everyone that it's not a place to linger, there are far nicer places in Morocco.

Also dress conservatively where ever you are. I've been to Fez, Marrakech and Essouira and also travelled round MOrocco a bit 3 times now. Never had any hassle, 2 women travelling on our own. But we wore trousers, long sleeved shirts and sunglasses (to avoid making eye contact at times).
