Solo Christmas getaway

I think my ex is going to take the kids on holiday this Christmas and I don't want to be stuck home feeling sorry for myself. Where would you recommend for a solo holiday for 4-5 days over Christmas that won't break the bank and that I won't feel uncomfortable being on my own ? Would love a bit of warmth, but canaries might be a bit far for 4-5 nights. Thanks

I've done the canaries in winter (early Feb) for 4 nights and it felt enough for a small break! Realistically, taking into account airport times, transfers and so on, the difference between a 2.5 hour flight and a 4.5 hour flight is nothing.

Before reading your thread I was going to suggest canaries!

You might want to look at holidays specifically for Solos so you will be with a group.

A bit of a curve ball, but the museums in Vienna are open on Christmas Day, I think they shut early on Christmas Eve as that's when they celebrate Christmas, so if you want to have things to do on Christmas Day to keep busy, and not be missing the children so much, then it's a good choice. Most of the Southern part of Europe is warmer than the UK, even if not technically hot. So anywhere in Italy or Spain will feel warmer. Marrakesh or Istanbul are good options, I would happily go on my own, but I know others may not, though probably not much shorter of a shorter flight than the canaries. If you want a more relaxing trip I probably would do the 4/5 hour flight to the canaries even for just a few days.

Malaga city. Easy, quick and relatively cheap to get to. Christmas there is relatively low key compared to UK, the Spanish really celebrate on Xmas Eve at home, and again on Jan 6 Kings Day for the kids. But the atmosphere is fantastic, and the lights along Calle Larios and the bustle around is amazing. You will not feel alone at all, if that's on your mind.

You have everything there, great tapas bars, buzzing area around the Cathedral, the Port area for walking and browsing, shopping, culture, the Picasso Museum, the Alcazaba and so on. The beach is on your doorstep if you fancy a walk along the Paseo. Walk North and enjoy the sea views with some nice cafes and beach bars on the route. Not all may be open around Christmas, but the city centre will be hopping.

You will be very safe in Malaga. It's a solo paradise really and there is a good but very discreet police presence around the hot spots in the town when the crowds are out.

I second Malaga. The Christmassy lights in the palm trees make them look like lit up willies too 😆
