Two weeks solo ideas (short haul)

ByPearlSnail · 18/02/2025 08:41

I’ve unexpectedly got two weeks to myself from tomorrow and am trying to figure out where to go.
I am desperate for culture but also quiet and nature after a lot of stress recently. I’m not sure this exists in one destination? Would definitely consider two different places.
Needs to be within a short haul flight.
Where would you go?

I'd do a couple of short trips within the UK.

Madeira? Very safe, loads of nature and things to see and usually pleasant climate all year round

howsthehair · 18/02/2025 09:33

Do you care about the weather? What kind of things do you want to do while there?

I would go onto the jet2 website and look at their holidays - you can filter by loads of different factors and I've never had a bad jet2 holiday

I'd start by looking at package deals and cheap flights to 'everywhere' for your local airports, to get an idea of prices and what's available.

I'd also consider not going for the full two weeks, have a few days either side where you can just relax at home, read, go for country walks, maybe spend a day or two at a spa, something easy that doesn't take any planning.

Southern Spain will be good for culture, winter sun and nature. Lots to see in the cities of Malaga, Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Cadiz, Jerez etc and surrounding mountains, countryside and smaller towns and villages. There's a lovely botanic gardens on the northern edge of Malaga city that's very peaceful, as is the parkland that surrounds the Alhambra in Granada.

A cruise. Wake up somewhere different every day

That’s interesting, I’ve done Tui before but not Jet2, can I ask where you went or where you might recommend?
one week of some sun would be good, doesn’t have to be boiling hot

Ooh, I hadn’t even thought of Spain, the Alhambra would be amazing! Thank you

I second the idea of Spain. Seville and Granada are amazing. The weather should be mostly nice too. We went to Malaga a couple of weeks ago and it was lovely to sit on a terrace in the sunshine with an aperol.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 18/02/2025 11:15

Def Malaga Seville Granada and cordoba. We were in Malaga a few weeks back and it was 20 deg but felt a lot warmer. Def shorts weather

paranoiaofpufflings · 18/02/2025 11:24

Italy - based yourself in two or three different places over your two weeks. Plenty of options for culture and nature. Florence, Venice, Rome, Sorento, Amalfi coast, Tuscan countryside, Sicily.

DeepFatFried · 18/02/2025 11:39

Lanzarote:
All the Cesar Manrique arts / architecture / museum sites
The volcano tour
Castle: Arecife
Geria region tour (interesting wine growing micro climate)
Good walks and bike hire (stay in Playa Blanca, go to the wild beaches)
Sunny
Good food

howsthehair · 18/02/2025 11:43

Italy, Portugal, Spain, canaries, and Cyprus with Jet2 so far. Enjoyed them all. I think Italy might suit your needs? You could start somewhere historical like Venice and get a train to somewhere like Lake Garda? Looks to be sunny but not hot.

cheezncrackers · 18/02/2025 11:59

I'd probably head to the Costa de la Luz/Algarve and spend a week in each. You could take a budget flight to Jerez and fly back from Faro. Gorgeous area, not too touristy, should be sunny and mild, storks nesting on chimneys, there's the Parque Nacional de Donana for wildlife and walks.

God, I also contacted this travel agency when I went to China before. I went to Xi'an, China, for a five-day and four-night trip. I also brought a child. Overall, I was quite satisfied.

Bjorkdidit · 20/02/2025 09:15

That's a remarkable coincidence but I don't China is a short haul destination for the OP, I think she'd have said if she was in Asia, as this is a UK based site.
