Can anyone give me some recommendations for beaches with coves and rock pools and all the stuff I remember my Dad showing me..down south, maybe round Brighton way. I live in south London and want to do it as a day trip. Even better a place with a hotel thats child friendly near the said beach...I'm under pressure to deliver!!

Broadstairs has rock pools at low tide, lovely sandy beach and lots of excellent child friendly italian restaurants for pizza, icecream and maybe a glass of wine. As a bonus it's on the train so non-car owners can get there. No caves though but still worth a day out.

oops you said coves not caves, must practice my phonics!

Thanks for the tip Madsometimes..also its nearly 3.0 now so after a glass or three it hardly matters whether I take him to see a cove or a cave...!

Joss Bay
Minnis Bay (Birchington)
Camber Sands

(I like Broadstairs too)

Goring by Sea

I'd recommend Minnis Bay at Birchington too, I grew up there It has a crabbing pool so you can go and catch a bucket of crabs then have crab races back to the sea. However Broadstairs is also great, the beach is very close to town and they have the most fantastic ice-cream parlour called Morelli's which we go to every summer for massive ice cream sundaes.
