San Diego best areas?

Ok so explored other threads on here, says not to stay downtown/gaslamp.

We have two teens with us for 4 days there but can't decide whether to stay at Paradise point or hire a house.

Any recommendations for neighbourhoods if we go down the VRBO path?

Going against the grain we did stay fairly centrally at a Hilton at Bayside - the rooms were all like mini apartments so kitchen facilities, separate sleeping area for kids etc. Close enough to do all the San Diego sights on foot but we needed a car to go further afield. That said we did enjoy the area around Mission Beach but no idea what it’s like at night.

La Jolla is great.

Thanks both! We have stayed at La Jolla a couple of years ago really enjoyed it but didn't get into San Diego so wanted to stay fairly central.

I did do SD but years ago and remembered loving Paradise Point.

We have two teens and they are opposite sex and not related so need to have decent spaces or two hotel rooms.
