Greek Island with 2 & 4 year old

Hello,

We are looking at doing something different from the usual all inclusive this year - wondering if anyone has had a successful holiday to the Greek Islands with small children? (thinking Milos/Naxos or similar).

Thanks!

We've been to Karpathos twice. First when our DD was 2, then again when she was 4. The first time she was more than happy picking up stones on the beach. The second time was a little harder to keep her entertained as Karpathos is very quiet and not much to do with kids, but we had a lovely villa with a private pool so that helped!

Also keep in mind flights. To get to Karpathos it's usually two if not three flights, and missing connections can be a problem. Unfortunately it happened to us 2nd time round and we ended up stuck in Athens for a night.
You can get a ferry to the smaller islands but they can take a long time.

The first time we went to Venice on the way home for a night which was great fun!

It's the price you pay for quiet paradise though! Naxos you'd be looking at least two flights or a flight plus ferry.

I took my DS to Greece every year (twice most years) from 14 months to 14 years and had the most wonderful holidays.

The Greeks love children and children love Greece.

Now he’s an adult, I really miss those days

Greece is lovely for children - not least as the Greeks dote on them.
No need to go to a remote island though, or one needing a ferry. All the many main islands have an airport, and quieter parts if that's wanted - much easier, quicker journeys with small children. An exception might be Meganissi - short ferry from Nidri (fly to Preveza on the mainland).

@GreenCandleWax yes of course we're on the other extreme really.
There's definitely a middle ground. All of the Greek islands are absolutely beautiful. There's definitely some hidden gems out there that are probably easier to get to than Karpathos!

I've got a friend who emigrated to Naxos she loved it that much!

We did resort stay in Roda. Its was lovely, kids club and pool were nice, people were so friendly. Our airline Lufthansa lost our stroller which spoiled it a little bit but we managed.

My kids loved Naxos. However it's not to far from Santorini so could be affected by the earthquakes. TBH I'd hold off going to that part of Greece ATM

@CharlotteCChapel good point! Thank you!

I went to Naxos with my kids when they were 2 and 5 year old, it's lovely. Flew to Santorini, few days in Santorini, ferry to Naxos, week in Naxos staying in Agios Prokopios and then ferry to Mykonos. We did a trip to Delos from Mykonos and then flew home from Mykonos. Mykonos wasn't for me, busy and very expensive, both Santorini and Naxos were very nice though. August was very hot, go earlier in the season than we did!
