So fed up with this January weather so want to book somewhere for next January. We don't want to do long haul as in Caribbean or Thailand so thought about this area. I've never been and probably have negative images of the place. Can you recommend somewhere based on - don't want a place with loads of kids or other noisy boozy adults, just want to relax and get some winter sun. No need for nightlife, bars etc. Not fussy about all inclusive. Budget is not an issue.

Yes it's about a 10 min walk to town/beach I don't imagine you'd need a taxi. If kids are little I'd bring a buggy even if just for the walk back. The apartments next to the hotel owned by the same group (Cordial Mogan Valle) are also lovely if you prefer self-catering. We have friends who have stayed there many times and highly recommend it.

@TheOnlyMrsW
We went to CV with a travel company called Archipelago Choice who are based in Cumbria. Really good service and they can tailor make an itinerary to suit your requirements, no pressure. It's not cheap cheap but they try to fit your budget and feature individual hotels, quirky places etc.
We wanted to do some walking and see a few islands. Flew into Sal (urgh!) for one night then flew out to Sao Vincente for a few days then ferry to Santo Antao for a while then flew back to Sal for homeward flight. We weren't interested in AI so this itinerary gave us transfers, accom and the info to do some of our own stuff. The other islands can be quite lush, volcanic, have colonial old towns and fishing villages, coastal paths and so on. Direct flights from the UK only went to Sal and Boa Vista at the time. We liked it!

@HelloDaisy we stayed at cordial Morgan playa at Xmas. Walk to town was about 15 mins from the hotel? But all shops and bars in the way down too. Never needed a taxi.
N44 opposite the hotel is a great restaurant btw !

Yes I was coming on to say this! Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria is ideal. We've stayed in the Cordial Mogan Playa Hotel which was beautiful but if I went again I think I'd love to stay at the Livvo Puerto Mogan. The weather is always beautiful in Mogan, lovely restaurants and not too busy.

We stayed at the Cordial Mogan Playa last year. Absolutely loved the grounds. It was so pretty. Puerto Mogan is lovely. Personally we found it too quiet in the evenings but if that's what you like it would be perfect 😊

Another for Playa Blanca Lanzarote or Puerto Mogán Gran Canaria (not stayed but visited, very pretty and a small quiet town)
Love Tenerife but it is busier.
Off to La Palma at Easter for the first time so excited for that.

How do you get to la Palma and where are you staying?

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 23/02/2025 20:34

@creamcheeseandlox flying direct from Manchester with Tui, i think they are the only company to fly there on package holidays, staying at the La Palma Princess on the south of the island

Just wanted to say thank you for recommendations for Cordial in Puerto Mogan. We have just got back and had a lovely, relaxing week. Gorgeous place to visit and the hotel was perfect.

You’ve probably already booked it but here’s my tupenths worth 😳🤣 I was a bit snobbish about the Canary Islands and thought it would be Blackpool in the sun, all man made high rise hotels and apartments with no character, but it was absolutely fantastic. The scenery was stunning. I would go back in a heart beat.

We like REALLY quiet. So it isn't for everyone but we really like La Gomera.

Tiny island. Very unspoilt and very little tourism.

I have thought about La Gomera but the weather doesn’t look brilliant in Jan and Feb, plus it’s a bit of a haul.
Where would you recommend staying?
