Copenhagen - worth going out of our way for? With Pre School aged kids?

We are taking our campervan to Europe in August - doing roughly a clockwise circuit. I fancy driving to Copenhagen, but its more sensible to drive straight accross Germany, from Amsterda to Dresden. Money is tight, and it would save money on petrol, and give us more time in Italy.

What would you do?

I've been to Copenhagen with pre-school DSs and we did most of the stuff of interest to them actually in Roskilde (not far by train - or indeed camper van I assume), which has a Viking Ship museum. If the Tivoli Gardens are open then that would probably be lovely for them but I think they are not open all year. So maybe worth going to sometime but perhaps not worth a major detour.

thanks mollymawk. We are leaning towards 'not', but if someone comes and gushes about how beautiful and interesting the country is, I could chage my mind...
