Lapland short break

Can anyone recommend where I could go to in Lapland for a short break (2/3 nights) in next few weeks. My interest is in lake swimming and saunas (it looks very beautiful); I’m dealing with the traumatic loss of my partner two years ago and find these activities helpful. I will be travelling alone (age 60, widowed). Thank you.

Levi is lovely and has quite a big and charming town centre and it looks as though ice swimming and saunas are available 8km away:

www.levi.fi/en/activities/traditional-riverbank-sauna-in-elves-village/

'Tonttula/Elves Village is located 8km from Levi Center. Transfer is not included the price. You can easily reach Tonttula/Elves Village by local TAXI.'

So sorry to read that you have had such a tough time, sounds like this would be a wonderful adventure for you to have. We saw the Northern Lights there several times (ski holiday).

What time of year? We love Pyha which is an easy bus from Rovaniemi airport. We've only been in winter but there are lakes and forests. I've been ice swimming there and lots of saunas.

Sorry, missed the "next few weeks" bit. So winter, yes. Stand by Pyha. Peaceful and rejuvenating.

Really grateful for your replies @MyPrettyLittleBella and @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea. I will get into flight/accommodation booking mode now. I’m looking forward to my trip very much. I find it difficult knowing where to get started with things now my partner not here to discuss plans, so am very grateful for your help, Thank you both ☺️

If you do make it to Pyha then I highly recommend Bliss Adventure. They run all sorts of activities and rent snowshoes and wilderness skis. They are brilliant, knowledgeable, kind and experienced so completely depends on what you want to do so but you could do a guided session on wilderness skis for example and then rent some for a couple more days and venture on your own.

Thank you @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea that all sounds fabulous. Very grateful for this. I prefer the idea of snowshoes to skis now - slightly less likely to fall over. And I like to be in nature and quieter places too. It sounds like an ideal destination.

If you are on Facebook there are lots of groups to help with planning. Lapland not just Santa is a good one. We are going to Levi in Finland and Lulea in Sweden next week (with a kid though so different vibes)

My friend went alone on a yoga retreat somewhere near Levi last year after going through a rough time, she loved it

@Peccary thank you. I like the sound of a yoga retreat too. Maybe I will go for a bit longer than 3 nights. I’m not on Facebook but the group you mention sounds interesting so I will have a look. Hope you have a great holiday.
