Mum and adult daughter holiday somewhere lovely and warm in March for a celebration..?

Hi my daughter turns 21 at the end of March and I feel very lucky that rather than a party she’d like to have a week on holiday somewhere beautiful with me. She’d really like to go long haul (as she’s only ever travelled in Europe) but really she’d like a boutique style pretty hotel (not loud and brash) but with a twin room..Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps you’ve been somewhere on an all girls trip that fits the bill?

I went to Barbados for a week with my mum for my 40th, it was lovely 🥰

Madeira is great but not for a 21st and not in March.

Echo Barbados, 8 hours there and 7.5 back.
I haven't been to Treasure Beach but sure it would be lovely. Most of the hotels are! For proper boutique style have a look at The Fish Pot www.fishpotbarbados.com/The-Hotel/ but it is a bit out on its own, places in Holetown will have more going on. Alternatively The Crane is a big resort but with a boutique feel.

Muscat.

Beach View, Barbados through British Airways holidays, a really lovely hotel, excellent reviews.

I went to Lisbon with my daughter in February couple years ago, we had beautiful weather, during day just cardigans and one of the days we didn't even need them, gorgeous sunny weather, we sat outside having long lunches with Portuguese green wine and did a day tour on a tuk tuk - great fun, we went on trams on and off a day, down to Belem and a wee boat trip and day just wandering and soaking it all in - Honestly we had the best time, evening did we did need a jacket/coat but we still sat outside to eat, lot of the restaurants provided blankets and they had outside heaters so we were never cold

I went to Malaga with mine a few months ago for a week. Was worried we wouldn’t have enough to do, but really do have used another week! Spa, flamenco and lovely meals.

Malta! Sunny, easy to navigate, The Phoenicia is a gorgeous place to stay.

I loved this hotel and Valleta was so lovely.

Me and mum travelled to Malta, it's beautiful. For long haul I do love Singapore and Indonesia but I'd have to bump it to a 10 day trip.

I went on a week long holiday to Dubai and loved every minute of it. I stayed at the RIU Dubai.

A must do is the aura skypool, a desert safari, the burj khalifa, and the shopping malls if not to spend just the looking is amazing. You won’t regret it.

we booked through love holidays and got a great deal.

Bermuda?

My mum and I go to Bali once a year, we stay in a gorgeous villa with its own private pool, outdoor kitchen/dining area, a lounge area, two separate but adjoined buildings that have a huge bed, tv , massive bathroom with big shower (compared to hotels).

It’s right near a whole row of restaurants, shops and a couple of clubs called Eat Street (but is far away enough that it’s quiet) and short walk/taxi ride away from a shopping centre/grocery shop, a little market, and a gorgeous beach club right on the seafront.

There’s also a monkey temple nearby and other towns and lots of little hidden gems like a circus themed eatery or a bar/restaurant modelled after Mexican favelas.

My mum flies from England and never has jet lag so no days wasted there.

I know it’s not a boutique hotel but once we experienced the luxury and space of the villa we’ve never gone back- but there are all sorts of fancy hotels, resorts etc there if you look!

it’s beautiful, the people are so lovely and it’s quite cheap!

Oh that looks ideal please could you send a link? Or the name of the villa?

Yayforyou · 11/02/2025 08:40

Where are you flying from? It would make a difference to direct flights, which would be preferable if you only have a week. I’d also consider transfer times once at destination too.

I second Mauritius and will throw in Cuba and Jamaica. All very different vibes, but ultimately chilled. Or Sri Lanka?

catlovingdoctor · 11/02/2025 08:50

Ramadan begins in late Feb so I'd advise against Morocco/Dubai/ Middle East purely because you won't be able to fully enjoy it and relax. Eating/drinking in public won't be permitted (or at least highly frowned upon). Maybe the Canaries?

Bjorkdidit · 11/02/2025 10:05

OP you mention a budget - will this stretch to long haul and a boutique hotel?

There's no way that a 21 YO has seen all of Spain, let alone Europe, so I'd try to steer her away from that restriction, especially if you don't have the budget for long haul travel. Seville would be amazing for example and if you had a week, you could take day trips to Cadiz and Cordoba as well as Seville itself.

jenthehen · 11/02/2025 13:31

thanks @Yayforyou we are flexible with flights from either London or the Midlands. Jamaica, Mauritius and Sri Lanka are definitely on our search list. Do you have any hotel recommendations?

@Bjorkdidit she’s widely travelled in Europe and our budget is healthy just not £4K each! It’s one of several holidays this year so just want to be mindful of what we spend. She’s just returned from Spain last week so is looking for something different. I’ve also visited Cadiz and Cordoba before so would like a change.
thanks @catlovingdoctor we are taking Ramadan into consideration.

absolutely! Here is the villa we stay in:
https://www.thehaereseminyak.com/

Here’s the beach club (also has rooms if you were wanting a beachfront hotel)
only a 5 min taxi ride or you can wander there in about 20 mins, also right next to it is a cute little market
https://kudeta.com/

This is a little further away but has DJ nights and a more lively clientele (fills up with younger more ‘bougie’ types)
Also does awesome fancy fun cocktails that come in teapots and tiki glasses and things

If you can go for longer I would recommend Thailand.

Sgreenpy · 12/02/2025 01:54

Hanoi - Vietnam
Bangkok - Thailand
Long haul though!
Singapore is cool but quite expensive.

jenthehen · 12/02/2025 20:19

Thank you @RachelGreensHair and @Sgreenpy they are fab suggestions. I loved Bangkok for part of my honeymoon so really want to go somewhere else for her birthday. The flights are just so long for a short trip.

So @jenthehen where have you decided? I loved the Monaco suggestion but I guess it’s not warm there and that venue is no more. Definitely made me think about 10CC and Life is a Minestrone….
The thought of doing a special lunch or afternoon tea somewhere decadent or remarkable is now a plan for DD1’s 30th.

jenthehen · 16/02/2025 15:48

@Mum5net we’re still looking, I feel like I could become a travel agent myself with all the research! We had a lovely afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason a few years ago, a real treat with a pianist playing and they sent us home with lovely’doggy bags’ of delicious food .
