Any advice on specific destinations please for our August beach holiday in Europe. We'd like to try somewhere different (not Malta, Sicily, Cyprus, Croatia, Spain or Antalya)
Likes:
beaches with rocks for snorkelling and jumping. Prefer coves to long beaches, we are possibly spoilt by Maltese and East Cypriot beaches (family ties to both countries)
close to towns with a buzz but not into nightclubs etc, not remote
roads that aren't too steep or hairpin bends (after a horrid event in Croatia)
An authentic feel
Was looking at Sardinia but put off by having to book beaches in advance and reports of very unfriendly locals.
I guess we are looking at Greece, other parts of Turkey and Portugal
We usually do independent self catering , have never done a package but may consider a self catering one if destination right and only way to get there affordably.
