Any suggestions for August holidays where it’s not too hot?

We are stuck with August for work reasons. Planning a family holiday. DH and me and 2 teenage boys.

We went to Spain last year but I just can’t get on with the heat. Does anyone have experience of holidays in Sweden? Or any suggestions at all. Thank you.

When our boys were teens we went walking in he French Alps. They loved it so much we went back the following year.

Probably not enough time but the southern hemisphere is cooler in August.

What ab out a cruise? You could go around the med, yes the ports will be hot but the ships are air conditioned.

As a child we went to Switzerland a couple of times.

I'm with you OP I don't do heat well.

We holiday regularly in the French Alps staying at about 900m. It’s warm but usually 25-28 degrees. If it’s particularly hot we go up a mountain. Loads to do!

French alps is a really good shout with teenagers - loads of activities like rafting, mountain biking etc. Nice weather and swimming pools, lakes etc but not crazy hot. Good food. Lots of festivals and fetes etc across the valley towns so take a car if you can.

Southern Sweden is just lovely in summer. Or I have heard great things about the Stockholm archipelago.

Sweden, especially near the coast, is beautiful in summer, but very expensive so you would need a good budget. I haven't been for many years for that reason. The Alps will be cheaper but it can still get very warm in summer.

Perhaps Madeira, or the Portuguese coast in the north near Porto?

Thanks. Off to search up these suggestions.

We had a road trip around the alps last summer which was great! It was warm some days but not at all
unbearable. We visited southern Germany, Seefeld (Austria) and Grindelwald (Switzerland). We are thinking of a similar trip in the future visiting the Dolomites in Italy.

Netherlands? Sandy beaches and loads to do - end of August the dutch schools go back so there can be bargains. Look at Landal.com / Roompot.com. And Duinrell. Zeeland is particularly lovely.

Where do you live? Try the north of Spain on the Atlantic: Cantabria, Galicia, Asturias. Full of Spanish people fleeing the heat at that time of year. Flights limited depending on your location. Santander has great surfing which your teens may love. Temps are mid 20s.
