Rome in September

I have booked a trip to Rome for September, for mine and DH’s anniversary. We are there 3 nights but have both been before so we’ve done the highlights (Roman Forum, Vatican, Colosseum) and now are looking for some hidden gems. Would love to hear any suggestions of where to visit? We love architecture, Roman ruins, and parks. A nice restaurant recommendation would be nice too!

Thanks.

The Botanical Garden there is a good one if that floats your boat. Trastevere at night for bars and restaurants.

Ostia Antica, Portus, underground areas by Piazza Navona and Trevi Fountain, Domus Aurea, Monte Testaccio

Villa Borghese

Borghese Gallery (need to book), Cafe Greco on Via Condotti, San Ignazio church, the top of the Vittorio Emmanuele monument for the views, Palatine Hill, Capitoline Museum, Keats House, Jewish Quarter, .... you will never run out of things to see in Rome!

For restaurants, try Armando Al Pantheon, but you have to be online to book exactly 3 months in advance (Stanley Tucci has made it v popular). Or Santa Lucia, just behind Piazza Navona.

Seconding a day trip to the scavi at Ostia Antica. Like a less crowded Pompeii. About 40mins on the train IIRC.
