So after a lively and lovely thread on here helping me with 2026 suggestions we’ve decided to go for Maine (me, DH, DS14 and DS10)
Fly to Boston, stay 3 nights which will give us 2 full days
drive to Kennebunkport, spending time in Salem en route
Kennebunkport for 4 nights, chill, mooch, whale watching, maybe beach, other towns
Drive to cabin on lake and chill for 11 nights.
Drive around 3 hours back to Boston and home
Can’t see us making it all the way up to Bar Harbor, we want a decent amount of chill and it’s around 3 hours from the cabin we’ve picked and once you’re up there it’s quite far from both Boston and Bangor airports.
Is this a mistake?
Any must sees and dos around Southern Maine?
Thanks

I think Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are the best parts of Maine.

For me that would be a long way to go for a lot of chilling. I would want to see more of the sights. 11 days in a cabin in Maine could be 11 days in a cabin anywhere in the world that has a relaxing vibe. - Canada, Scotland etc.

We only had 12 days and didn’t make it to Bar Harbor and I do regret it. After Boston we went to Kennebunkport then north as far a Camden. We then backtracked and spent some time on Cape Cod before flying home.

We saw a lot of lighthouses as DH is a Hopper fan. DS was 12 at the time. I remember he loved LL Bean at Freeport and going up the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. He also enjoyed visiting MIT and Harvard. Not to mention the cannoli from Mike’s Pastry.

Salem is a bit of a tourist trap. I’d spend 4 nights exploring Cape Cod after Boston and then go to Kennebunkport. Definitely don’t miss Bar Harbour and Acadia. 11 nights is too long in a cabin.
