Family Surf- tropical destinations

Hi

We are deciding where to travel to this summer. My husband loves to surf but i don't and so we're looking for somewhere with good surf and also safe calm swimming beaches where the kids can snorkel.

We had thought about returning to Kauai which we love but my husband wants to try somewhere new, perhaps Asia/Indonesia.

My kids would like to travel to Japan, they have been studying it at school and it has totally inspired them to travel there. They would also love the food. We are open to Japan but also looking at other options too. My husband would like a beach holiday incorporated into the trip. I love a lush green mountain back drop and somewhere that feels tropical. My husband has suggested Bali but i've heard that its become incredibly busy. We also looked at French Polynesia but it seems very expensive.

We'll have 2-3 weeks and happy to consider 2 destinations.
I'd love to hear your suggestions!
Thank you :)

Queensland, Aus? Surfing beaches, snorkeling the barrier reef plus rain forests.

Western Australia also has a massive reef, but its not widely known, called
Ningaloo. Waterfalls/forest in parts too. Flights into Perth or Broome would likely be cheaper than Qld too. Mar-Aug is peak season to swim with whale sharks on the reef which is an amazing experience.

There are some lovely, quieter parts of Bali, but I don't know how busy things are now. I went 20yrs ago. I'd avoid Kuta beach though, which is like Malia/Ibiza clubbing areas.

I first snorkeled in the islands around Fiji and New Caledonia as a child and the coral then was stunning.

Maybe South Africa? Although it will be winter there in August.

I thought this was going to be about the washing powder.

Aus will be in 'winter', but the north of the country are in the dry season in Aug, so a good time to visit and hardly UK, winter temps! Australia is as big as Europe! So you can ski in some parts whilst surfing in others.
Broome would have a night temp of 17'C and a day high of 30'C on average. Cairns would average 17'C- 26'C.

Unless someone is wanting averages of 50'C in the day and night, I wouldn't consider those temperatures to be freezing cold, winter conditions! 🙄

There are quieter places in Bali and Lombok. Amed in Bali is fabulous for snorkelling, Selong belenak and elsewhere on the south of Lombok has loads of surf places. Uluwatu in Bali is probably busier but when we stayed we were speaking to a guy from Hawaii who had come there to surf.

In 2022 we did 6 nights Ubud, 4 nights Amed, 5 night Gili T, 2 nights Rinjani, 4 nights Selong Belanak, 2 nights Gili Gede and 4 nights Uluwatu. Beaches and tropical scenery galore!

Hawaii?

There’s a family friendly hotel in the Maldives that is good for surfing but also has snorkelling. I forgot the name but google might tell you.
