Sol Kathmandu- Palma

I have found a deal for 5 nights at Sol Kathmandu which seems unbelievably cheap. It seems really convenient too - everything on site or nearby, which will be handy as I am travelling with a 4 and 6 year old and no other parent.

But, is it too good to be true? We travel on the Thursday evening, after school, wake up the next morning which is an inset and then travel back on Monday evening, which is also an inset day. So, even the traveling is pretty perfect. And, all for an insane price - a few days in Cornwall would be the same.

We're not looking to go for an epic adventure, just hang out on the beach, get some sun - its not guaranteed here - and play in the pool. So, it doesn't have to be fancy. But I also don't want it to be a dud as it will be miserable if I'm the only adult and its totally crap!

Has anyone ever been? Is it better marketed than that actual experience? Any insight would be great

It’s a great location, 5 mins walk to the beach, plenty of place to eat nearby. Splash park on the site with other entertainment so it would be fab for you age DC’s

its in Magaluf. Which if it weren’t for the huge numbers of budget English tourists out on the razz it would be a lovely place- the beach is pretty, a lovely stretch of sand and perfect sea.

but if you aren’t a complete snob who will find English bars and basic cafes cringeworthy you can I’m sure have a few lovely days with your kids .

It's a great place for a few days in the sun. The prices at Sol Katmandu have been going up quite a bit for the last few years, so if you've got a bargain then go for it. The water park is sufficiently big that they sell day passes to it. And Magaluf beach is actually fabulous. Even the town itself is fine as long as you are not totally allergic to football shirts and daytime drinking — think Weston-super-Mare or Blackpool, not Gomorrah. You won't be going to the notorious "strip" of an evening (which can indeed feature debauchery on a biblical scale).

Thanks all. For the price I'm not that bothered about being surrounded by sunburnt brits who just want American style food. We've tried cultural trips with the boys before and they couldn't care less - spending money on anything beyond a splash park is wasted until they're older!
Think I'm just going to go for it
