Meal ideas, no kitchen

We’re travelling to Germany this summer. We’re staying in a hotel for a week, with breakfast included. We won’t have a kitchen, but there is a small mini bar fridge in the room. We had planned on eating out a lot.

However, now something has come up and made a huge dent in our finances. We need to budget a lot more for this trip. Has anyone got any good ideas of how to do this? There is a supermarket nearby, so I was thinking of making picnics etc. Might get bored of that quickly though, especially when we need lunch and dinner.

We stayed in a hotel last year with no cooking facilities. It was a family room with a big coffee table.

Breakfast - hotel full breakfast
Lunch - cafes
Dinner - M&S food in our room. We had sushi, pasta, pasties, various salads, dips, fruit, cold meats, desserts, sandwiches etc over the 4 nights we were there. Any supermarket or deli that does "food on the go" would do. Make it more special by getting starters and desserts and serve with wine!

I’ve mentioned cancelling and finding a self catering apartment but it was a flat out no from DH.

The hotel breakfast will be bread and cheese/ham/jam. An affordable take-away lunch that you can eat on the go will also be bread-based. Dinner to take out will be pasta or pizza or doner kebab. I hope DH likes carbohydrates, and even then, this is not going to be a fun holiday. Eating pizza off your lap in your hotel room, or maybe takeaway Thai from plastic containers with wooden forks on a park bench, sharing a 500ml bottle of beer, might be fun if you want to relive your student days, but otherwise it's going to be a long week.

Honestly, if you don't have to go for something like family reasons, and DH is going to put his foot down on not changing to the s/c apartment, I would cancel and make the trip when you aren't counting the pennies.
