The nhs website says to have various vaccinations before travelling to tunisia but, a friend says we don't need them as we are staying in the city. Is that correct?

There are no required vaccinations for Tunisia like there are for some countries. Just recommended ones that'll be on the list for any country that you're probably covered for already - are you up to date with your childhood vaccinations?

NHS website says routine vaccinations and tetanus should be up-to-date and gives a list of vaccines 'to considered'. If not on the recommended list I probably wouldn't bother, but you can always book an appointment at a travel clinic to discuss.
