Using a baby monitor in Italy - do they work?

We're going to Italy on Saturday and I'm just starting to compile my list
I've heard that uk baby monito wavelengths can differ from country to country in Europe, so uk ones might not work (ie. pick up the local cab firm radio instead of baby)
We were planning to take our (Tomy Walkabout) monitor so we can sit by the pool while ds naps in the villa during the daytime. Not far away but might not hear him without the monitor..
Has anyone taken their monitor with them to Italy & how did it go?

you are right that frequencies used differ, the problem is that it might not be the cabbies hearing your baby rather than each other but it might be the police radios or something else important.
