Has anyone been to Egypt?

Looking at it for next April / May. Found a nice hotel in Taba, but not too sure what it is like there.

How long are the flights there? What is the time difference etc?

Thanks

Hiya

Haven't been to Egypt but have a lot of Egyptian friends. Its about 4 hours to get there and the time difference will either be an hour or two hours ahead (depending on when we change the clocks). I think Taba is more of a back packers stop off point rather than a commercial tourist destination so you may want to grab a Lonely Planet guide or something like that to get more info about it. I have heard its very beautiful though and not as commericalised as Cairo or Sharm El Sheik (sp!)

TBH, we want to go there and just relax

All inclusive hotel, just myself and dh (inlaws are having children for a week).

Sounds like it good be a good place to stop.

Is it a problem that it seems to be by the boarder?

oh yes lkovely if you like swimming you can see loads in the sea with just a snorkel straight off the beach

i only went to sharm and sinai

food is unremarkable

if just you and dh worth doing some sort of trip

seeing stars in the desert is good

Thanks for that Zippi. Probably going to book it in the next week or so.

I went to Sharm and Cairo just before I got pregnant. Was hot (even in October) and great for swimming/snorkelling. Watch the water though/washed salads/ice in drinks and make sure your food is well-cooked - both me and DH were ill whilst there and we are very careful usually but obviously not careful enough.

There are some wonderful excursions and historical sites to see as zippi has said, although the resorts around Sharm are pretty non-descript, just the usual tourist shops and photographs for a menu restaurants. Haven't been to Taba.

There are a few specialist Egypt travel companies who are suprisingly cheaper than the usual highstreet names. Can't remember who we went with in the end but seem to remember it being a bargain compared to what Thomas Cook and the like were offering, and it was also cheaper than booking it independently. Might be worth having a hunt on the internet.
