Where can you recommend that is similar to places like Lisbon or Palma?

we love the mix of an old town and some museums and galleries but also that real mix of being on holiday and beaches near or a short distance for a day of a dip in the sea. We have enjoyed Lisbon, Palma and Valetta for these reasons and looking for somewhere similar.

Valencia would tick your boxes. Lots to see and a beach too.

Cuitadella or Mahon in Menorca...

Rhodes Town
Funchal , Madeira

Cadiz and the Costa de la Luz. Antibes, for the old town and Picasso museum with Nice a short trip for many more museums. Lovely sandy beaches on Cap D'Antibes and Juan Les Pins. Siracusa/Ortigia in Sicily - gorgeous old town but you'd need a car to access the best beaches. Monopoli / Lecce / Bari in Puglia.
