Australia for 3 weeks in June/July is £10000 enough?

I went to Australia for a year 20 years ago and DH and 2 DC (teens) are keen to experience it. I've found flights to Melbourne with an internal transfer from Sydney to Cairns and then from Cairns back to London. I've priced up car hire and airbnbs in Melbourne/Sydney and Cairns and it's all come to around £8-£8,500. Is it realistic to think we could keep food (will only eat out a few times) and trips can be kept within £2k?

I would say Aus winter is a great time to visit (I'm an Aussie) particularly if you want to go up north. You'll want your puffer coats for Victoria (which in my mind is still much better than 35 degree heat) but then it will be t shirt weather in Cairns.

I think your initial budget would be pretty challenging but if you can add another couple of grand you'll be right. Supermarket food isn't particularly cheap in Australia, so you'll probably need a bit more than if you were at home for self catering. If you want to go out to the barrier reef, have a good look at pricing and inclusions for the day trips on offer. And don't forget to factor in the petrol costs for driving long distances if you are planning to do day trips in the car.

Have an amazing time!!

Thanks all lots of food for thought.

I didn't see Tasmania last time so that would definitely be on my list.
