As the the title says which is the warmest in May out of Greece canaries and Cyprus from your own experiences. I have googled but have contradicting information so want ppls own real experiences of which they'd say is warmest out of the three.

Canaries. Greece could be hotter but weather in May there is less consistent/ predictable.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/01/2025 14:48

I’ve been to Fuerteventura in early May and it was really hot.

Paddybare · 24/01/2025 14:48

May can be tricky, especially early on in the month in Greece and it also depends on the island quite a bit at that time.

Cyprus will likely be warmer, last May, the minimum max temperature was 21 degrees at the beginning of the month but the hottest day was 31 degrees towards the end of the month.

Canaries will be more reliably warm but perhaps not as hot as Cyprus. Last May, Gran Canaria max daily temperatures were between 23 and 27 degrees.

We went to Cyprus in May half term and it was roasting hot. 35+

Allthebrokenplaces · 24/01/2025 14:53

I think Cyprus most reliable or a southern Greek island, Rhodes or Crete if you mean second half of May.

I've only been in the May half term (close to June) if it was early May I'd plump for the safety of the Canaries, which is usually pleasant throughout.

user989 · 24/01/2025 14:54

Ive been to Greece in may and had it rain most of the time. Canaries are further south and a safer bet

Whattohavefordinner · 24/01/2025 16:24

I’ve been 5 times in May to Cyprus it’s nice and warm no rain.

If you go in a villa you will defo need an heated pool as the water is freezing!

CharlotteCChapel · 24/01/2025 19:11

We've been to Crete in May and whilst it didn't rain it was not reliably sunny, it warmed up in our second wekk even though the locals were in coats and jeans we were comfortable in shorts and t-shirts

thenightsky · 24/01/2025 19:13

Many years ago I went to Greece in May and was wearing my swimming costume as a thermal vest I was so cold.

Global warming might have changed the situation since the 70s though.

Ladamesansmerci · 24/01/2025 19:14

Canaries are reliably hot. I'm in Lanzarote at the moment and it reached 29 degrees today!

TwistedWonder · 24/01/2025 22:17

Cyprus. My cousins live there and we’ve always had great weather may half term.

Greece depends what part. I’ve been to Crete and Kos late May and weather was lovely. Then went to Zante May half term week and it was so cold people were wearing tights and fleeces. We were drinking hot chocolate rather than Mythos

Maddy70 · 24/01/2025 22:28

Canaries

Maddy70 · 24/01/2025 22:39

I've been to Cyprus in may. I was freezing !)

Ineedanewsofa · 24/01/2025 22:43

Went to Rhodes last May half term - first 2 days were a little chilly (there was a storm!) rest of the week was over 30 degrees every day!
Tenerife will be hot but probably high twenties hot at most

TwistedWonder · 24/01/2025 22:45

We have been both Lanzarote and Gran Canaria May half term and it was quite overcast and low 20’s. Warm but not hot and chilly at night

In Gran Canaria the locals were wearing coats 🤣

starlight26 · 24/01/2025 23:10

I've been to Tenerife in April and been sunbathing in lovely warm sun and ended up getting burnt!

NoTvNoWifi · 24/01/2025 23:17

We go to Cyprus often as have family there. If you go after 21 May your hot sun is virtually guaranteed but before that date it is hit and miss.

TheLette · 24/01/2025 23:19

When in May? Not sure I'd risk early May in Greece but the end of May has been glorious weather the last 2 years I've been.

Bjorkdidit · 25/01/2025 03:20

You've had contradicting information because it's very variable at that time of year and this thread will tell you the same.

Of those options, I'd say the Canaries will be more reliably hot, especially if you go to the south of an island but its not guaranteed. We've been to Tenerife in May and had cooler, rainy and warm at best. But equally it could be hot and we've seen this many times.

Not been to Greece or Cyprus but we've been to southern Spain a lot in May and have experienced all types of weather from near freezing, frost and snow but that was near Granada to over 40 C, ie August weather.

MyCalmRoseHelper · 25/01/2025 10:56

We went to Rhodes end of May last year. It was in the 30s all week. They said normal temperature at that time of year is usually 10 degrees lower.

Greece last year had a summer long heatwave. We went to Lesbos’ in early June and it was 35-38 whereas usual temperature at that time is more like 28-32.

Friends were in Rhodes same week as us and it was over 40 several days.

We were in Rhodes last few days of Sept going into October and it was still 30 every day but did get chilly at night.

Think May is unpredictable which is why the response are varied. My cousins who live in Cyprus says the local saying is you can’t guarantee sun until the 32nd of May

PollyCreo · 25/01/2025 16:04

May in Cyprus is usually lovely (26c ish) but last May was horrendous as PPs have mentioned - there was a heatwave that lasted about 2 weeks with temperatures of 38c (it was the time that Dr Michael Mosley died in Greece if you remember).
