2 weeks in Malaysia

Any tips for a 2 week itinerary with teens to Malaysia in August please?
Bit of wildlife/ snorkelling would be good.
?KL/Highlands/ Redang?

Batu Caves*
Petronas Towers*
Go to Penang, particularly Georgetown, it’s a very interesting place

I spent 13 days there on my honeymoon. Would have loved to have had longer.
We had a few days in KL in a posh hotel with a lovely pool that looked over the city centre and Petronas Towers. Then a few days in the Cameron Highlands, tea plantations etc. Our second week was on Redang, snorkelling and diving. The sea was like a bath and the snorkelling straight from the beach was outstanding. The island was a bit more built up than I'm used to, but I didn't want to go to Tioman or Perhentian (so?) because I'd be told there were a lot of sandflies. I get bitten by EVERYTHING!
I'd have loved to have gone to Borneo and to the rainforests, maybe next time!

Kota Kinabalu or Langkawi

We are booked for KK at Easter and it looks amazing and prices are very reasonable. We are booked into the Shangri-La and got a v good deal through booking.com

Our first time there but everyone that we know who has been raves about it.

NB - flying direct from Hong Kong not UK so you may want to look into flights that work for you

We did KL, then Malacca then Perhentian for snorkelling/diving/ turtles (no sandflies) then Taman Negara for jungle and back to KL.

It’s a quick flight to Singapore if you haven’t been.

Check the weather as it’s not great everywhere in August. It’s got some monsoon.

In August you want the East coast for beaches as west is monsoony then. Look at Perhentian islands, Tioman island, Redang island, there’s probably lots more little ones. No sandflies on Perhentians when I went years ago.

Penang might still be interesting for the history/mish mash of cultures but be prepared for rain/grey. Skip Langkawi at that time.
