Is it even possible to get UK holiday accomodation for under 1k in summer anymore?!

Getting abit frustrated as I am trying to plan us a summer holiday but the prices are so crazy!

Ruled out going abroad as it's too expensive especially as we want to go in the summer (summer holidays ideally so we can combine using our limited annual leave for a holiday and childcare in one)
We would like to go to Devon or Cornwall, but it's still so much money....everything is coming up at least 1k- even what I thought would be cheaper options such as Haven sites and youth hostels! Not keen on camping for various reasons.

Did look at going before hols in July out of interest but it's still at least £800/900 for even the most basic caravan.
At the site we stayed in in 2019 the caravan which cost us about £600 for the first week of July then is now £1500 for the same one!

We stopped going to center parcs last year for a short break as the prices got so high, but didn't realise everywhere else had gone up so much too! 😩

Yeah we’ve bitten the bullet and spent over 2k for a haven site in the holidays. We have gone for a golden caravan, I’m not sure if that’s going to make the difference but it’s a lot!

July is already school holidays in Scotland so that will impact. Have to go back to June for no one to be on holiday, school wise.

Don’t go in the summer. Go over May half term or October half term, even Easter. The weather is always iffy in the UK anyway. We never go away in the summer. I don’t want to spend my precious time off queuing to even get into Wales or Cornwall!

Try tehidy holiday park, they tend to be reasonable and it’s a good area to explore many local beaches, it isn’t coastal but beaches are only a couple of miles away. It’s where I recommend family and friends to stay if they are visiting me. Hopefully the prices haven’t gone up too much

Have you looked at Hoseasons?

mitogoshigg · 22/01/2025 16:24

Yes plenty of options with Park Holidays, £750 gets you a gold caravan in many of their parks.

slimpicks · 22/01/2025 16:24

I literally just booked a 3 bed apartment 300yards from the beach on Lizard for £990. It'll be a bit cold and it is on the 3rd floor but so what!

If you have no luck with Devon or Cornwall it may be worth looking at Suffolk or Norfolk as the prices can be a bit cheaper.

Family room in a premier inn in Cornwall - £650 for a week at end of July .

Hearya · 22/01/2025 16:58

Loads on holidaycottages.co.uk (depending how many people!)

Imagine spending a full week all crammed in one family bedroom with no living/cooking space. No way to put the kids to bed early and stay up.

Awful.

We holiday in Norfolk. We got two 4 day breaks in August for around 300 each using cottages.com nothing spectacular but then it's just a base for us so aslong as it has beds it's fine. Can use tescos vouchers too.

We have previously got haven caravans for £180-250 in Norfolk too.

We'd love to do Cornwall but it's become so expensive.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 22/01/2025 17:20

It's a good idea to look at the last week in August that doesn't include the bank holiday - can be cheaper for some reason. Alternatively if you find somewhere that splits bookings into Mon-Fri, Fri-Mon, then do a Monday to Friday booking. I'd you make the most of it then a shorter break can feel as good as a week.

BBQPete · 22/01/2025 17:28

Where are you travelling from and how far are you prepared to travel ?

As Cornwall is the last place I'd look.
I mean, it's beautiful, but expensive, and the roads completely jammed during the school holidays.

@MikeRafone 's posted loads of links, but would you consider anywhere in Wales ? So many beautiful places.
or Dorset?
or Norfolk?
or the Yorkshire Coast ?

im a big fan of premier inn. We love it. And use them a base wherever we go. Visiting restaurants and pubs for meals. I’d prefer that than self catering. But you can do something
else.

frankly I wouldn’t go to Cornwall again. We had driving rain for 5 days when we went there
