Stairgate solutions??

What can we do abroad for a stagnate if the accommodation doesn’t have one? The downstairs is open plan so we can’t just shut a door to the stairs, and LO is at an age and level of curiosity where a gate is essential.

The travel ones on Amazon seem to have terrible reviews otherwise that would have been an obvious solution.

You have an unrelaxing holiday and supervise. Travel stagnates are shit and villas usually have bloody hard marble / stone with hard corners.

I’m not staying in a villa with a hard marble floor, what a weird assumption.

Anyone else got some more helpful ideas?

We've always used travel stairgates and had no problem with them. At worst it'll slow your LO down!

What kind of accommodation is it? Do you need barriers just for stairs or to block off entire areas?

Thank you!! No it’s just to block the stairs - it’s a place we’ve been before and know really well so exactly just a case of slowing LO down.

Where would you recommend getting them from?

We’ve also always used a travel stair gate and it’s been fine. Obviously not as sturdy as a screwed in place one but good enough with supervision.

I can’t seem to find any that don’t have terrible reviews online- where did you get yours?

Just be careful with the pushfit ones that they don't mark walls- can you give the owners a heads up? I haven't had any issue but if they have cheap paint it might mark

Shittyproblem · 21/01/2025 12:07

They can cause damage. I kept a deposit when tenants badly marked my holiday home. They were furious, & I was out of pocket as the repair was more than the deposit.
Is there any other way to control the child? Playpen when you're not in the room?

BertieBotts · 21/01/2025 12:08

We had a Mothercare travel one which has always been great. I have no idea where you'd get one like that now.

PickledElectricity · 21/01/2025 12:09

How old is the child? I would probably plop them in the travel cot or just supervise at all times 🤷‍♀️

Ah helpful to have a hosts perspective thank you! LO is confident on stairs so I think I’ll stick to keeping an eye on her instead!

Is your accommodation a private let? Is it worth seeing if the hosts can provide one?

Yes he’s said he’s going to find out if he has one - it’s managed for him and he’s not local so I’m not hopeful!
