Where to go? Family friendly holiday in Italy (North?)

Hi all,
We've got a 7 year old and a 3 year old, never taken them abroad before. We're hoping to go to Italy in early June but stuck on where to look. Any experiences/advice on location or accommodation would be great!

Desirable:

  • Not a million miles from the nearest airport
  • Kid-friendly activities near by (or within an hour's drive. Now we have kids we're not the type of family who want to sit in a hotel by the pool for a week).
  • Somewhere the kids can experience Italian culture a bit?

My husband has holidayed at Lake Garda 6+ times as a child and is keen to go there. I'm open but just not sure how much there'll be for our kids to do. (Neither can swim unassisted so that rules out water-based activities).

Thanks for any replies 😊

Europa Silvella? It's at Lake Garda, an easy drive from Milan or Verona airports. Camping Europa Silvella ❤️| Lago di Garda | San Felice del Benaco - Europa Silvella. It's listed under a campsite, but there are homes on the site, some with jacuzzies etc so it definitely doesn't feel like camping (click 'the village' option on the website). Lots to do on site, there is a shallow pool, kids club, evening entertainment, sports facilities, and you're not far from restaurants and cultural things to see too.

Lake Garda is the most family friendly of the lakes imho. Less than an hour from Verona airport. Waterparks, lake activities, cablecar ride to,petting zoo and alpine activities, boat trips.

Look at eurocamps around Venice. Lido Di Jeslo is good, beaches and busy town but trips to Venice too

Lake Garda is fab! Look at Garda land as well. We did not go there but they have things for younger kids. Going on the ferries is so much fun! Ice cream is fab as is all the food. The towns around the lake are beautiful and you could easily paddle.

Southern end of Lake Garda is fab with Gardaland and there is a fab safari/animal park if you have a car. If you stay in Peschiera or Desenzano you can access the train and go to Venice or Verona. Also second the idea of one of the big campsites near Venice, e.g. Union Lido or Portofelice. Both have "proper" accommodation if you don't fancy a mobile home, but the onsite facilities are amazing for little kids and easy to get out to Venice or Lido di Jesolo. Even Rimini might be nice out of main season.

We've stayed at a farm called Pian de Cascina in Umbria, they have a pool, lots of toys, a playground etc. It's run by English people who were great at pointing us towards places to visit and there was a pizza night run by a local chef.

Good for a week, a fortnight would have been too long. A fair drive from Florence (I think just under 2 hours)

Thanks all, it's reassuring to see others recommend Lake Garda (DH really is keen)!
Will have a look at all places suggested 😊

I would also recommend lake Garda. Take a look at Weekend Glamping, which is a campsite with mobile homes, some of which were very nice indeed!
