What is the longest recommended time my baby can stay in his rear facing car seat?

DS is one this month and still in his rear facing car seat. Cos we live in the Middle East and are moving back to the uk in September we did not want to buy the car seat til we got back to make travelling back easier (we also have to fly back mid summer for a family wedding for 10 days). Can we keep using the rear facing seat here and then get the forward one for when we are back in the summer...does anyone know if this is ok??

Some have a 10kg weight limit(stage 0), some 13kg (stage 0+). dd was almost 18months when we changed. Forward facing one is 9kg minimum

Isn't it safe until the top of the seat gets to eye level?

nocluemum if you have the manual/instructions check there first - we have a Britax and it has clear guidance in the manual.

If manual is lost I would suggest googling the brand of the seat and they will have a website.

I think in a fairly standard seat they are roughly ok until about a year old, but it varies of course with the height and weight of the child.
