I took my teenage DD to Naples for 3 nights in October. Main reasons were Pompeii and archaeological museum. We stayed at the Hotel Piazza Bellini near the museum. It was conveniently located for restaurants and sight seeing. We had a budget room which was basic but clean and comfortable. It’s a lovely old building, comfortable and quirky. Breakfast can be eaten in the courtyard. A peaceful retreat from the craziness of Naples. If I ever went back to Naples I would stay again.

We loved the Hotel San Francesco al Monte.. It has a wonderful roof garden and pool. Amazing views.

We stayed at a b&b in the centre. Lovely place in an old building and the room was spacious and lovely breakfast. Let me know if u want the name as I'll have to dig it out.

We also stayed at the Piazza Bellini and was happy with it.

We stayed at Relais Castel Nuovo - apartments over looking the port. We had just come back from Ischia too and it was literally across the road from the hydrofoil. The airport bus also stops there. https://www.relaiscastelnuovo.com/
Very central.

Thank you so much for all your tips! Final one - do you think there is enough in Naples for 2 or 3 nights? One of the days would be my 50th birthday so hoping to find a lovely place for lunch at least on that day!

Definitely. The Archeology Museum. There are 2 underground tours. We did a great free walking tour round the historical centre. Get the funicular to the top of the hill and walk back down via the Spanish Quarter. Herculaneum is not far and more manageable for a visit than Pompeii. On Ischia - definitely go to the Aragonese castle. The views are stunning.

Two nights is only one day and there is masses to do and see in Naples! There are several really great museums, there are churches and catacombs and markets and all kinds of fun stuff. The food in Naples is amazing too. You'll barely scratch the surface with one or two days.

creamcheeseandlox · 17/01/2025 17:46

We went Monday to Friday so 3 whole days. We were busy all day doing stuff. We did the bourbon tunnels, archeological museum, Pompeii, versuvius, walking tour and explored the Spanish quarter (go see the maradonna shrine) so it's doable but you will be on your feet all day depending On what you want to see. I loved Naples and so did my teens.

It's gorgeous, isn't it @CrystalSingerFan? I haven't been (yet!) but I think of it as Italy's Versailles - it's on that scale. Next time I go to Naples I'm definitely going to go there!

There's a restaurant with singing waiters in Naples. Basic Italian food but entertaining.
