Special Holiday with kids

I am looking to book a holiday for my 40th birthday which will fall in Oct so am looking for somewhere special that we wouldn't normally do. Will have kids with us ranging from 5-15 years
looked at Mexico but have never been and it is coming in no cheaper than 10 grand. It would be a push for us to stretch to that but as a one off so I'd be a disappointment if it didn't live up to expectations. Hoping someone could recommend.

Really depends what you want from this holiday.

If it's a beach holiday, you'll be wasting your money on Mexico.
It's a wonderful country (spent a lot of time there), but a beach is a beach is a beach !

You don't say how many kids, but perhaps look a bit closer to home ?
