Avios or companion voucher? Best way to use?

Should I use Avios or my companion voucher:

I have a companion voucher that expires in August. For some reason I hadn't realised this, and I'm now not sure how/what to use it for.

I also have approx 150,000 avios that a family member wants to gift me. I think the easiest way they can do that is if they book a flight for me with me as the named traveller, and use their avios to pay for my flight, (but I can't then use my companion voucher). But I could maybe find a fabulous long haul destination?

I just can't decide whether to save their avios for another trip, or whether they are very good value, for example I could book a flight & hotel trip for my son & I to Chicago (for example), and use mostly avios for that.

OR should I use the companion voucher to book flights somewhere further (& not use their avios), but it is quite hard to match up availability of flights with my availability and destination. (I have 60,000 avios on my account with the companion voucher).

My mind is frazzled. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

Add them to your household account then you can use your CV and it will automatically take the Avios proportionately.

Use the companion voucher as it has a use by date. Add the family member to your household account and then they can transfer their points for you to use when you like (obviously having a household account means they could also spend your Avios points but if that’s not a concern then do it). We used our companion voucher and Avios points to fly first class to Singapore for our honeymoon. It cost us £600 all in It took DH some determined searching on the BA website to secure the flights we got but it was an amazing experience. Also, if you choose to not use the Avios points this time, don’t forget that you can transfer Avios points to other One World carriers and get better / more convenient flights that way.
