Ideas for 3 nights away for a couple in July please

It's my 40th in July this year, and my mum has just offered to have our DD for 3 nights in the school holidays. Where shall we go?

We normally do family holidays AI in a resort, somewhere close to an interesting day out. We went on a trip to Barcelona last year, so don't want to go there again yet, and I have Palma booked with my sister. Loved Seville and would like to do a proper trip there, but not in July! DP will suggest Italy, but I imagine it's also way too hot late July.

Not sure if we want a city break, or relaxing (open to ideas for both). Not interested in outdoorsy type breaks though. Flying from Leeds Bradford/ East Midlands/ Manchester if we have to (probably do to get decent value).

I'm currently looking at Malaga, and wondering whether Copenhagen might make the list too. Can I have some ideas please?

I really want to go to Malaga and have done quite a bit of research so that would be my vote. Short flight, easy train ride into centre from the airport. Shouldn't be roasting, lovely restaurants and places to visit. Could jump on a bus or train and head to one of the lovely beaches along that coastline.

Malaga will be roasting in July but I agree it’s a wonderful choice. Love Malaga.

But wouldn’t you like to spread your wings a bit outside Spain?

I think Copenhagen would be a great choice (I’m off there this week!) but how about Vienna as a bit of a different choice? Probably my favourite European capital.

Malaga gets my vote.
Airport is great with a train that takes you straight to the city.

So much to see:

Picasso museum
Oldest tapas bar
The indoor market is fantastic to moouch around
There's a train that takes you you the coast. We loved Feuregirola

The channel islands. Not abroad but they don't really feel that British

Or Valetta in Malta, it's beautiful. Phoenicia Hotel is right in the centre and it's gorgeous, they do sometimes have offers on, not sure if they will in school hols though.

Malaga is great and very quick and easy to get from airport plenty to see

Porto is cool. Great city to wander. Amazing food and music scene. Port estates if you like that stuff.

Warm or not?

The Netherlands is beautiful and such a short flight which makes the most of your three nights. We can be there by 10.00 day 1 and leave at 21.00 on day 4.

Public transport is brilliant, train direct from the airport in Amsterdam.

Den Hague is both city break with all of the usual ( museums, flea market, quality shopping, restaurants and bars) but with the benefit of a beach, (accessed via tram) including beach bars.

The beach bars at Scheveningen are immense aren’t they? Many a summer’s day and evening spent there <sigh>

@BitOutOfPractice really underrated isn’t it!

Thanks for all the replies! Seems like Malaga may be a good shout, and I'll definitely look into Den Hague as well, and Malta.

Love the thought of Portugal, but flights from the north seem to jump in price quite drastically.
Vienna- I would love to see, but it feels like I might enjoy it more in the winter? It looks like a city that does winter well! Although saying that a friend was in Malaga last month and said it was beautiful.

Ibiza- ooh, dare we? Feels a bit out of our comfort zones, but maybe that's what we need?
