Naples or sorrento as base to visit pompeii

Hi there
Which town is best to stay in for a 3 night trip to Italy to see pompeii? Going with our two teens in the Easter hols .. would they prefer Naples or sorrento?

Naples! It's beautiful

Didn’t like Naples, I’d go for Sorrento…although it depends what you enjoy / want to do apart from Pompeii. Sorrento is quieter with nice restaurants and the seaside, Naples is loud and busy. Sorrento is also a great base for visiting the Amalfi coast which is really beautiful.

We stayed in Sorrento. It's easy to get to Pompei by train. There are loads of lovely restaurants and you can get to the Amalfi coast.

They both have their pros and cons. Naples is cheaper but also ime violent and dirty. Sorrento is pretty but quite the rip-off. The train that you get from there to Pompeii does go through some smaller places that are nice but not "buzzy".

We stayed here…near Sorrento and in the Trainline that runs from Naples to Sorrento that also stops at Pompei.
this village was nicer than Sorrento as not as crazy busy, but still easy access to visit Sorrento for the day.

Teens would probably prefer Naples. It's more buzzy with lots going in. Sorrento is more romantic getaway for couples without kids vibe. Lots of glamorous bars and restaurants. The beach is all pebbles iirc.

I’ve been to both many times and for a first time, short visit, I’d say Sorrento.

Try to visit is Herculaneum (Ercolano) as well.

I'd recommend staying in Pompeii. You can get on site early for a full day tour. Spend day two doing Herculaneum (which is very different) and a trip up Vesuvius. Do a day trip to either Sorrento or Naples on day 3. Local trains are excellent.

If you stay in Sorrento it is definitely worthwhile getting the train to Naples for the day to go to the museum, where most of the artefacts from Pompeii are
