Depends where in Egypt.

Also are either if you female?

AI in sharm or Luxor is lovely (although Sharm is very much a diving place and not much else to do).

Hurghada is great. Fantastic hotels and close enough to Luxor for sights. Loads of great diving and snorkelling

We've been to Egypt many times and it's one of my favourite countries - there is SO much to see that you can only really scratch the surface in a two week break. We've usually stayed in Luxor or Aswan, and there are some wonderful hotels. We've only booked all inclusive once because there are some excellent and reasonably priced restaurants in Luxor. However, when we stayed at the Hilton in Luxor, we decided to book on an AI basis because it was a bit far from the centre to go out every night and there were only a couple of local restaurants, although this may have changed since we last went. I think the Hilton was one of the most perfect hotels we've ever been to and the food was out of this world. But if you're staying in the centre of Luxor I would just book bed and breakfast and explore local restaurants in the evening.

If sharm I’d tread carefully. It’s very hotel dependent read reviews on trip advisor carefully. Ours was nice but sharm is a shit hole with nothing to do except mooch around hotel and diving/snorkeling. Our hotel had snorkeling just off the jetty at the hotel which was amazingly good. If it wasn’t for that it would have been a bit of rubbish holiday tbh.

I found Hurghada and Sharm really dull. There's not a whole lot to do except snorkel and a trip out out to the desert. If you want to snorkel and flop its great.

We went on a Nile Cruise and I absolutely adored it, one of my favourite holidays ever, small boat, there's not that many of the boats cruising at the moment so nowhere was crowded. it was so interesting. Up early to see stuff, then snooze and watch the river banks and life go by in the afternoon. We did a hot air balloon ride over Luxor that was an absolute highlight.

We tagged on a trip to Cairo at the end, just independently, and loved that too.

We are in our 50s and like seeing stuff.

Edited to add - every one on the boat had an individual guide with them - which I wasn't sure I'd like - but he was brilliant. So there were some people travelling in small groups who had a guide and others in pair who had a guide each.

Have done Hurghada twice with teens, once with ex and latest one just me and 2dds. Both times were great, just gotta be firm with the sellers as you walk by. We use the Viator app to book excursions and never had any problems. All much cheaper than the rep prices.

The question is where in Egypt and what type of holiday do you prefer? Eg beach, historical sites, walking etc.

TheTruthHurtsDontIt · 10/01/2025 16:13

We do Hurghada AI every January to blast away the post Christmas blues and get some winter sun. I have a very physically active job so my plan is always to flop on a lounger and read and drink cocktails and do fuck all else for two weeks, so I can say Hurghada is great for that!

Lulu1919 · 11/01/2025 08:58

Hello thank you all
Plan would be a hotel day then a trip out day then a hotel couple days trip out kinda thing.

A Nile cruise is an AI floating hotel.

The rooms are just like an hotel, full bathroom etc.
Trips every day with a local guide - but not compulsory of course.

Loved it so much, we've done 2 but with various stays added on.

Tigertigertigertiger · 11/01/2025 11:11

Iberotel palace in Sharm via TUI if you are going without children!

Tigertigertigertiger · 11/01/2025 11:11

It's adults only, I've been back several times and it's incredible

BigDahliaFan · 11/01/2025 16:56

Check on the trips out available before you go....from memory from share they weren't that varied, hurghada might be better. And some are very long days indeed.

Thanks everyone

We booked a trip to explore Egypt https://www.memphistours.co.uk/Egypt/Egypt-Tours-Packages and had a brilliant time. They were really flexible with what we wanted, and the guides were super knowledgeable without being boring. We did Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan, and it all felt really smooth and well-organized. I was nervous about safety too, but honestly, I felt completely fine the whole time with them. Definitely made everything way easier for us.

Currently in Sharm staying at the Steigenberger Alcazar and it’s amazing. 4th time to Egypt. We love it.
