First time to Portugal - would you go to Porto or Lisbon?

We're planning to spend 5 days in Porto or Lisbon followed by 5 days at the beach. Which one would you recommend? It's for me, DH and our teenage DC. Thanks!

In terms of the cities themselves, I preferred Porto but not sure on the beach aspect. We did get the tram to the beach while in Porto for the day.

Loved Porto, much more than Lisbon.

Lisbon. Whilst Porto is nice it's a 2/3 day max to see everything whereas in Lisbon you could spend 5 days exploring, plus there's Sintra and Cascais within easy reach for full day trips. Do do a Segway tour, not expensive and a great way to see the city!

I much preferred Lisbon to Porto.

I loved Lisbon too. I did actually take a day trip to Porto, which did a couple of stops en route (Obidos and Nazare) so was a long day but worthwhile a gave a little taste of Porto. You could consider similar if you really wanted to see a bit of Porto, although you'd have no problem filling 5 days in Lisbon.
