Victoria Falls

Has anyone been? We are thinking of going to celebrate my 30th Birthday. Flights are around £400 each and a stay the Victoria Falls Hotel is around £600 a night. So adding it to our Cape Town holiday would be around £2,000 for a weekend.

Is it worth seeing?

We are going in May so I hope it's worth it! The photos look amazing but I think it can vary throughout the year depending on the water flow.

I’ve been there, Sept time, water level was low. We couldn’t actually see too much of the Falls as there was so much water spray. But the experience of being there for several days was great, waiting for elephants to cross the road when we walked down to the Falls, white water rafting (scary but the highlight of the holiday), also went on the Chobe river and safari, lots of big elephant groups.
So if you are only going for the weekend just to see the Falls, then I’d probably say not worth it but if you can go for several days, then yes it’s worth it.

We stayed in the area at a lodge on the river and saw lots of wildlife, visited the falls themselves and had a bit of RnR after a safari. I think they are worth seeing, and many people do visit as a bucket list exercise, so why not. If you can afford it, go for it.

I've been, many years ago. It was amazing! The highlight for me was going on a scenic flight along the gorge and over the falls. It was a tiny plane but even then it felt like the wings were going to touch the sides of the gorge so it was both incredible and terrifying in equal measures. I think they may do helicopter flights instead these days but that would be amazing too. Like PP have said, have a few days there if you can to soak up the vibe and experience all that the area has to offer. It's a stunning place.

@nearly55 I'm so pleased that you've affirmed how great it is! We are spending 2 weeks in the area doing a safari, river cruise plus 4 days on a train to get there from Pretoria. We are planning a helicopter flight over the falls to experience them fully so looking forward to it.
