I fancy Finland

Just that. Has anyone been in the summer? We'd like to sightsee, maybe do some cycling and swimming.

Perhaps a ferry trip across to Tallinn too.

I don't tolerate mosquitos very well, and assume they'd be at their worst up in the arctic circle. For this reason i thought staying in the SW around the archipelago would be best.

Happy to take suggestions. Even if I'm told it's not a great destination!

I heard it doesn't exist 😁

Ooh watching. We were just considering Finland.

I understand the mosquitoes are worst in central and southern Finland in June and July, which is putting me off a bit I must say. We were eaten alive in Canada a couple of years ago and it wasn’t fun.

It's so beautiful in the summer - I was not prepared for how gorgeous it was! I went about 10 years ago now for 2 weeks - camping - and didn't have any issues with mosquitoes despite being warned I'd be eaten alive!

@LittleRedRidingHoody can you remember where you went specifically?
Swimming, saunas and cycling is what I want!
I find it interesting that the likes of Headwater (who we often for active holidays) and Audley don't have any trips there. Which makes me wonder if it's perhaps not ideal

Went down a rabbit hole trying to find the place! I think it's near Keuruu. Though it was just a campsite, so no recommendations for the swimming/sauna/cycling unfortunately (although we did swim in a beautiful lake - not sure we were supposed to though!)

Mosquitos can be bad if you're around lakes and forest. Somewhere by the sea, like Helsinki, not an issue. There are ways to protect yourself (sprays etc).

If it's your first time, I'd probably do Helsinki, day trip to Tallinn, maybe day trips to Porvoo or Turku (or spend few days in Turku).

It's lovely! Went last year. Didn't see any biting creatures thankfully!

I recommend Tampere for a couple of the days, the postal museum was fascinating as was the rock museum (all one complex) and you can take a river trip.
