I have to travel for work but only in economy and no seat fees will be covered. If I have a choice of flights and everything else is equal I'd really like to pick a window seat to tuck myself away in. 😁 I was a bit surprised with BA recently where they randomly allocate at check in, I'm sure it used to be possible to self select a seat at least at check in? Apparently now you have to pay the same for a preference as pre-booking, which means always gambling or paying.
To save me trawling all the airlines FAQs can you tell me which (if any these days) airlines you have been able to chose your seat at either purchase or advance check in for free?
I don't have any loyalty tiers as I travel on different airlines. Worst case, I will pay for my long haul choice to avoid the middle seat crush but it's annoying when it's a work trip.
