Malta

Hi all. I’ve just started looking at holidays for June this year - we’re a couple of single 50 something ladies who enjoy sunbathing, a couple of day trips during the day and a nice relaxed outdoor dinner followed by a drink or two afterwards.

The last few years we’ve been to Greek Islands and had a great time but fancy somewhere a bit different and looking at Malta

Found a hotel we like the look of but it seems to be a bit isolated. However we’ve been told that the buses run through the night so easy to get to the towns and restaurants/bars.

Just really asking for anyone’s experience of Malta and any recommendations before we take the plunge.

I’m pleased I visited Malta and whilst I enjoyed my holiday there, I have no desire to go again. We stayed in the AX Victoria hotel in Sliema which was a great base for visiting other areas. We used the local bus service and took the ferry across the harbour to Valletta which was a 5/10 minute journey.
I think I just found a lot of the island a bit run down and unkempt & the food a bit mediocre. That being said, the locals were lovely and the hotel was fab.

Base yourselves at St Julians, great for the evening, lots of restaurants / bars and a good base to visit the rest of the island. Get a bus pass at the airport and off you go. Buses are clean, regular, air conditioned and cheap and we used them every day, early evening.

We went Malta a few weeks back, was really disappointed. Wouldn’t go back

This. Hilton was excellent. Lots of bars within walking distance. Yes buses good but didn’t use at night.

Definitely stay in the St Julian's Bay area. The Hotel Juliani is in Spinola Bay and is lovely. Buses are easy to navigate in Malta too. The downside of Malta is that it has been somewhat ruined by overdevelopment.
