How to split costs ?

DH and I are planning on Thailand in August, how do we split the costs?
Go big on flights and fly BC then stay in a mid range resort or fly economy and stay low luxury?
Generally we aren't big resort people and like to be able to get out and about so not looking to stay in a resort for 2 weeks.
We are looking at Koh Samui and resort prices seem higher than other resorts that we've stayed in in Thailand before.

I'd spend more on accommodation as that accounts for more of your time so seems a better ROI.
However I've never flown anything but economy so can't really speak from experience as to whether it's worth it or not to upgrade.

Personally I always do economy and spend the extra on nicer accommodation. You're there for a much longer time than the plane!

Honestly though that's because I'm really not fussed with flying - eat and then pass out 😂 If I had longer legs etc that might change.

Definitely save your pennies for the actual holiday, not the journey. Like PP though, I don’t struggle to sleep on planes so I’d choose a red eye flight and snooze through most of it (making sure someone woke me for food time!)

We stupidly did BC super long haul last year and not sure we can go back 🤣
We are still looking at staying in 5 star resorts, just not super high end.
Is is really worth the extra money for a resort that generally is a bit further away from everything?!

It’s not worth coming off the plane in physical pain. I’ve got really long legs and a bad back. 1 hour in economy is enough to make me hurt for several days.

I wouldn’t make the trip without upgrading the seats.

For me it is definitely not worth being further away from everything. I want to be out and about in walking distance of my hotel, always!
