My parents in law want to treat everyone to a family holiday this year and asked me for ideas. They travel a lot for work but never for pleasure - they have a place in one of their home countries so only go there.

  • Last week in July for 7-10 days, probably 7
  • 7 adults and 4 children aged 6-9
  • Open to resort or luxury villa
  • Some family travelling from Europe, some from US but will possible go through Europe.
  • Definitely 5 star if a hotel, ideally with kids club or activities available
  • Will want the option of leaving the resort perhaps one or two days so not solely a location that is 'fly and flop'
  • Don't require exciting night life
  • Not Portugal or Canaries.

Budget is flexible but maybe capping out at 25,000.

Any suggestions very welcome!

I would suggest going to one of the specialist travel agents for this. With people travelling from all over, it'll be a hassle - get a pro to deal with it.

I would 100 percent go to a beautiful hotel in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico for what you are looking for. It’s a bit of a trek if coming from Europe but so worth it in terms of the quality of the hotels, the weather, and the exciting and varied types of day trips you can do.

The other option that springs to mind for me would be a luxury villa with pool in Tuscany, maybe nearish Florence for day trips. That’s a trek for the US based family but again I think worth it for a different slice of life.
