Peru and Chile

We've been in the Maldives or Thailand during the winter break (we get three weeks off) for the last three years. It's lovely and we're very lucky, and DH does a lot of diving, which he really enjoys. Next time though I'd like our holiday not to focus on beach/pool/diving and do something different! We are late 50s, no DC.

DH was in Santiago on business earlier this year and really liked it there. I've suggested we do something more adventurous and do a December trip to Chile and Peru, to include the most desirable sites to visit that we can fit in (I currently have no sense of how far apart these places are!)

I'd be interested to hear of others' experiences and recommendations. Thanks!

Not sure how adventurous you really want it, but you could fly to Santiago and then go north (La Serena, Tongoy, Antofagasta), Highly recommend an excursion to see the geysers from San Pedro de Atacama. You could then cross to Peru and see the Nazca lines, and then make your way to Cuzco and Machu Pichu.

Enjoy!
