Jabs for Mexico?

Looking at booking Mexico for next year but we have a 1 year old, will he need jabs before we go? Don't really want to go Mexico if that's the case don't want him getting jabs just for a holiday! Does anyone know?

In the time it took to write that why not Google??! https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/north-america/mexico

some are advised to consider but none are essential. I think it depends what type of holiday/ what you are doing there

I took a 3 and a 1 year old to Indonesia, I don't think we could vaccinate the youngest against typhoid before we went, but this was years ago. The risk of hep a/typhoid is significantly lower if you plan to only feed them with those prepared sachets of baby food. If you plan to buy food in restaurants/take from the hotel buffet for the 1 year old then their risk is the same as yours. Chat to a travel clinic and get some proper advice before you book anything.

@Dontsparethehorses I tried and nothing came up when I did, no need to be rude.

All you need to do for any country is look at the Foreign Office website which will tell you what jabs, if any, are required. I think it will depend on whether or not you are planning to stay at the beach the whole time.

I went a few years ago and we definitely didn’t have jabs. Not sure if we were meant to or not.

EffinMagicFairy · 23/12/2024 21:37

We went as a family this year and didn’t have jabs, but there were people with horrendous mozzie bites, thankfully we took super strength mozzie repellent, take this with you, along with lots of sun protection as can be very expensive once there.

FeegleFrenzy · 23/12/2024 21:42

If you are going to swim in a cenote or go to somewhere like Xcaret you need special suncream as well, like reef safe stuff.

and yes, my mozzie bites were horrendous. I had huge marks on my legs which left scars for months. Must have had 100 marks all over my legs the size of 5p pieces. I remember my ankle surgeon freaking when he saw them a few months later!

The recommendations for jabs are here. travelhealthpro.org.uk/country/147/mexico#Vaccine_Recommendations

You should be able to get them on the NHS, but can choose a private clinic.

We've recently discovered that ds wasn't insured as he wasn't upto date with his childhood vaccines which when you read the small print on the insurance documents excludes him. Check with the insurance too.
