Driving from Barcelona to the Coats brava - how bad/easy is it?

We're camping in the summer near Callela de Palafugell on the Costa Brava. Although Girona is the nearest airport the flights are not great. Most of them arrive in the veneing and we don't really wnat to drive then. There are flights from Barcelona which arrive midday and gives us lots of time to drive. Does anyone have any advice about this. Whether we should avoid this route at all costs etc? Or am I worrying about nothing.

guel going to Spain on holiday and will be staying on

Sorry the title should be Costa Brava - I really must use preview.

I can't see a problem with driving from Barcelona to Palafugell. It'll just take a bit longer that's all. Go for it.

Worrying about nothing! We made same journey last year but flight got in inthe evening and journey was longer than we thought so arrived after campsite closed etc

Actually, now I remember, I think we had problems around Calella finding our way but only because it was late/ dark and we were hungry/ tired. I can't remember how long journey took but do remember it was longer than anticipated once we turned off motorway. Oh, an on the way back we got confused by Barcelona motorway and went through rather than around the city... we still made flight though.

Just allow plenty of time and you'll be fine. Lovely ice-cream parlour on the seafront in Calella with fab flavours/ sorbets-use this as a bribe to avoid stopping en route!

we did it a few years ago (pre-children) and it was fine. The difficult bit is getting out of Barcelona, but if you get a good road map and avoid rush hour you should be fine. there is a toll road you can take for some of the way, but if you want to avoid paying you can just take the regular A roads instead, it's just a bit slower.

I am jealous! Catalonia is one of my favourite parts of the world.
