Is anyone able to reccomend from personal experience a company that specialises in solo travel? I have always wanted to visit China but DH is not interested, so I plan to visit by myself next year, early Autumn.

GAdventures.

I've been with them alone and they were fantastic. They are a Canadian company I think with a UK branch and website. Consequently many of the fellow travelers were from US and Canada and they can be easier to break the ice with and I have a friend still from my last trip there.

I'd really recommend them.

I’ve done a number of holidays with exodus, on my own and with my partner. I’d highly recommend them. I’ve heard from others that Explore are also very good.
The first time I went on my own I was worried: had never holidayed in a group before but I’m a convert now. Go for it!!

Oh and to add, your situation isn’t uncommon, one half of a couple having different interests or no holiday left and so on-so the groups are generally full of like minded people.

I had a good experience with Solos but not sure they go as far afield as China

Intrepid Travel and g-adventures. I’m off to Ecuador on my own in Jan with Intrepid. My fourth trip with them

I go have been solo on a number of group tours with these 3 companies: Intrepid, Explore and Exodus. I must have taken 12 or more trips, including a 3 week trip through China. In my youth, as in late 20s/early 30s I had a preference for trips with Intrepid. They use a lot of local transport, you mix with local people and the other passengers were more people of my age at that time. In fact I met my now husband of 14 years on an Intrepid trip. On my first group tour I was 26 and I went to Peru with Explore and I was the youngest person by a good 10 years, I was often the youngest on the Explore/Exodus trips when I was on my 20s. Hence the preference for Intrepid. Though average age of the group does vary a bit with destination. As I near 50, I may be more inclined to go with Explore or Exodus, as you get a bit more luxury. You usually get a mix of singles and couples on any trip. Fond memories of fab holidays. I should add I haven't travelled with any of these companies recently as we have 2 kids, although I have the Exodus family Namibia trip on my radar for 2026!

Thank you all so much for these reccomendation. I have heard of Explore and Exodus but not the others. I have done my time backpacking and roughing it, at at 52 am looking for something authentic but not uncomfortable!! Now I have some decent options to start exploring. 😊

Intrepid, Explore! or Exodus. They all do similar trips, but some itineraries/dates may suit you better.

My preference is Intrepid as I like travelling with Australians.

I used "onetraveller" had a fantastic holiday to Thailand and one to India.
Also used Cox and kings to south Africa.
Very female heavy but great fun. Only one problem we had was a group of 3 ladies who had been on several singles holidays together and we're now great friends. They spent all their time with each other and none with the other people
Not quite the spirit I thought.

I've used intrepid but my preference these days is to travel with an in-country specialist instead. I've found they tend to be better value, and the money goes to the country I'm going to.
