We're going to Morocco on Boxing Day for 10 nights. 5 star adults only hotel - bliss. I have 10 books downloaded on my Kindle.

Costa del Sol on 27th December, a week with DS and his partner and a further week just me and DH. Normally we would go February when it's cheaper but DS has the week off work. I just like that you can get a bit of sunshine at that time of year on a short flight.

Heading to Vienna on the 27th for a long weekend, we often get away for a city break then. I love Christmas, but the lead up through December I always find stressful. We have 2 kids, husband is Asian and Christmas doesn't have quite the same meaning to him, so the mental load generally falls to me. I am always very much ready for a break once it's done. Looking forward to some Hapsburg palaces and lippizaner horses.

Totally missing the point when the first thought that crossed my mind was “I wonder which books she has put on her kindle” 😂 We were contemplating Bali where we go regularly but I would have a riot on my hands from my adult kids as Christmas can never vary, I am thinking of flying on Boxing Day next year.

We went to Lanzarote last Christmas. It was nice but I wouldn’t go for actual Christmas again but definitely would head off on the 27th.

We went away for Christmas one year, but our kids hated it, so we have to be at home for the day itself. Last year we went away on Boxing Day, which actually was really stressful and ruined Christmas Day for me, because I spent the entire day packing and getting ready for our trip! Also, I had to cater very carefully on Christmas Day as we had no time to eat up leftovers, so lesson learned.

We do like to go away for New Year though and are heading off on the 29th to ski in Italy for new year.

We have adult children who aren't bothered what we do really. One of them went to Milan a couple of years ago with his girlfriend over Christmas so they set the trend. We also only have to pack for ourselves which simplifies it.

Last year we went to Tenerife for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year, first time we've done it and absolutely loved it. The weather was amazing. But it's my turn to host this year (my brother and I take it in turns) so I couldn't not take my turn, therefore the compromise is a Boxing Day getaway.

I also have parents in their 80's who are very fit and able but I'm conscious that there aren't many Christmas days left with them.

Everyone will be taking leftover food home with them on Christmas Night.

Fly Christmas Eve to Colorado for ten nights.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 21/12/2024 13:02

@cheezncrackers

I agree that going away on Boxing Day would spoil Christmas Day itself.

We've done a break leaving 27th or 28th December several times - DH always wanted to get away over Christmas as he had enforced leave at that time and not much in the summer, but responsibilities for older relatives always kept us here Christmas Day. I think now that if DS was to announce that he and his partner were away for Christmas itself, DH and I would definitely head off somewhere ourselves, even if it was just to a nice hotel in the UK somewhere.

We're impressed so far. Staff are so lovely. Hotel seems quite spaced out. Food was typically all inclusive but only used main buffet - there's an Italian and Moroccan too.

Am lucky enough to be in Estepona since 17th Dec and back home10th Jan. Xmas v low key here thankfully, and although cool at night and not swimming weather, its very pleasant, bright blue sky and warm in the day and not dark until 6pm
Enjoy all your escapes!

Stayed in Dublin Monday night, flew out Christmas Eve to Dubai and spent Christmas Day there then flew out that night to Melbourne where I'll spend 3 weeks with a bit of travelling while I'm based here. Then I'll spend a few days in Singapore on the way home. It's hot in Melbourne.
