Is this too much travelling for 8 nights holiday?

Thinking of doing this holiday.

Part 1:

Flight 1: 8hrs, then 2 hours layover
Flight 2: 20 minute flight

Spend 5 nights there.

Part 2:

1hr ferry & then 1h ferry

Spend 2 nights there

Part 3:

1hr ferry

1 night

Then 10hr flight home

It would be for me. I wouldn't do long haul for less than 2 weeks.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/12/2024 19:43

Where to? We once did 5 flights over 24 hours to get to a magical island paradise. I wouldn't do it for anything less!

Can you just do parts 1 and 2? Or 1 and 3?

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 14/12/2024 19:44

I would do this, no problem, if I really wanted to see / visit all the places, but wouldn’t do it with kids.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/12/2024 19:44

I'd be fine with the long haul but not keen on 3 locations in 8 days or one night stays.

TiramisuThief · 14/12/2024 19:46

I would do two out of the three

Travel takes a day of your holiday out, unless you're going to a resort to chill and sit by a pool.

I think it would be fine. However if you're with kids as long as they're 6/7+ should be fine imo

It depends - how frequent and reliable are the ferries?
(where are you going?)

Tricky one. We did the Caribbean for a week once and it wasn’t worth the long haul for such a short holiday. Yours will be an adventure assuming all goes to plan, but you’ll be knackered when you get home!

I wouldn't do the 1 night at the end unless the ferry was very very reliable, short transfer before/after ferry and the flight back on last day was late with transfer time in evening. Even then it would have to be an amazing 'not to be missed' location. The travel time eats into it too much otherwise

Imisschocolate17 · 15/12/2024 21:38

Just to add - we do quite a lot of multi-centre trips, with DC in tow, we avoid 1 nights only now as have had a few where we've been at the location barely 8-10 hours, Sometimes include some 2 nights particularly if the travel to or from it is less travel than other parts of the trip. It's amazing how much time you can lose with the transfers to/from travel connections and you only need a small delay to wipe it out

Can you clarify that the 1 night stay at the end is returning to the original location in order to catch your plane home, this seems the logical assumption to me. Thus the 1 night stay means you avoid having to take a ferry on the day of the flight, which seems entirely sensible to me. I am though a little confused that it takes 2 ferries to get destination 2 and only 1 ferry to get back, unless it's some kind of circular ferry route?

Assuming the above is correct from a planning perspective I think your trip is probably fine, but for me it depends on how many timezones you are crossing as to whether I would do it for 8 nights. We did something similar to your suggestion in terms of moving around and relying on ferries, but in Malta so no long flight. We did 4 nights Valletta, direct ferry Valletta to Gozo then an Uber to Victoria, 4 nights in Gozo, uber-ferry-uber to Medina (back on the main island) 1 night stay and then afternoon flight home. Great trip.
