Best European City break?

summerlovingvibes · 14/12/2024 19:08

What are your favourite European cities for a 3-4 day break? 2 adults (female cousins) just wanting a short break to somewhere a bit different. Have been to Paris / Pisa / Rome / Faro / Lisbon / Split.

Sunnnybunny72 · 15/12/2024 17:21

We've done Rome, Reykjavik, Alicante, Valencia, Copenhagen, Palma, Budapest, Vienna, Munich, Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Malaga, and going to Lisbon next month and Krakow in Feb.
My very favourite though is Seville.

Amsterdam, Stedilijk Museum is one of the best contemporary art galleries in the world. Beautiful to take a boat around the canals and lively nightlife

Ellmau · 15/12/2024 17:58

Venice or Bruges.

WhereAreWeNow · 15/12/2024 17:58

Naples

BotanicalGreen · 15/12/2024 18:02

Depends on time of year but Seville is wonderful.

GrimDamnFanjo · 15/12/2024 18:04

Naples. Go there every year and not had a strike experience.
Lisbon was nice.
Copenhagan.
If you are going for a short break, choosing a destination where the airport is close by is helpful.

Mere1 · 15/12/2024 18:11

Go to Seville AND Cordoba. Or Bologna AND Florence. European trains are cheap, clean and efficient. On either of those you get two cities for one flight. Porto was lovely in September.

Havalona · 15/12/2024 18:18

@GrimDamnFanjo Naples. "Go there every year and not had a strike experience."

Do you think it would be safe for me, a solo woman (rather mature lol) in Naples? I really would like to see the Archaeological Museum, and Herculaneum/Pompeii.

I'd rather do it on my own as no one I know is remotely interested, or has already been.

Anywhere to recommend staying in Naples, or what areas to avoid lol!

dottydoglover · 15/12/2024 18:22

Prague - stunning !

Sadcafe · 15/12/2024 18:24

Definitely Venice, stunning and just so different

Havalona · 15/12/2024 18:29

As a pp said, combine them, get much more out of a few days! My favourite combos are -

Padova/Venice
Bayonne/Biarritz
San Sebastian/Bilbao
Seville/Cordoba
Padua/Venice
Marseilles/Avignon
Rouen/Caen/Normandy beaches
Bologna/Ravenna

So many more, but I'd be here all day.

Palma de Mallorca.
very pretty.
great food.
safe .

Bjorkdidit · 15/12/2024 18:54

Cordoba is an easy train ride from Malaga too.

Cologne and Bonn, the previous capital of West Germany are both a short train ride from the same airport.

We were in Reykjavik this summer. Lovely city and you can see so much in 3 days.

Poggishairtufts · 15/12/2024 19:04

Gent

Budgiegirlbob · 15/12/2024 23:48

We recently went to Tirana , Albania and had a wonderful time.

Perhaps not the prettiest city, but the mix of communist and modem architecture was very interesting. We went on a free walking tour, and hearing about the difficulties moving from a strict communist regime to the country it is today was fascinating, and very thought provoking. Lots to do in the city and some great trips out to the mountains and countryside.

It was very different to any other city break we’ve previously done, and we loved it.
