Books to inspire a backpacker (Thailand, Vietnam)

DS will be travelling next summer, to Thailand and Vietnam. I'm looking for ideas for Xmas gifts on this theme - maybe an interesting travel book, or maybe a novel (though I have already given him my old copy of "The Beach"). Any suggestions?

I read the Quiet American and Vietnam: Rising Dragon before I went a couple of years ago, both excellent.

I also recommend The Quiet American. The film is almost as good as the book.

Any novel by Duong Thu Huong is worth reading. She's one of my favourite authors.
